□艾迪朵合作社是耶加雪菲咖啡農民合作聯盟(Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union,簡稱YCFCU)成員之一.YCFCU成立於2002年,轄下擁有23個由區域小農組織的中小型合作社,概估涵蓋300000名以上的咖啡小農.
□Named for the village nearby the cooperative, Idido was established in the late 1970s and joined the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) in 2002. The cooperative has roughly 1,000 active members who cultivate farms averaging 3.7 acres. YCFCU, located in southern Ethiopia, was founded in 2002. It has grown to represent 23 member cooperatives which includes more than 300,000 families. In this region, 153,215 acres are dedicated to coffee alone. Grown alongside bananas and maize, forest canopy, organic fertilizers and a temperate climate produce a very high quality bean.
Cooperative Coffees started sourcing from YCFCU in 2013 and has established direct relationships with some of the cooperatives including Idido, in the district of Yirgacheffe, and Hama, in Kochere. Via CC, Higher Grounds has purchased this washed coffee directly from the Idido Cooperative, which delivers some of the best quality coffee in the region. Idido joined YCFCU in 2006 and currently has 1650 members.
YCFCU is working very hard to be proactive in terms of promoting quality. Premiums to farmers based on coffee grade is a measure that they are implementing to increase the quality of coffee. YCFCU now has its own processing facility in Addis Ababa.
Education, health care, and access to water in Ethiopia are all extremely limited. Despite the country’s coffee exports accounting for nearly 60 percent of the national GDP, many coffee farmers and their families live in dire poverty. Education, health care, and access to water are all still very limited in Ethiopia. HG has a special relationship with farmers there thanks to Project Ethiopia, a long-term partnership via our sister nonprofit, On the Ground. Project Ethiopia focuses on raising awareness on the importance of education and works toward the development of schools for young children in Ethiopia.
